Revealed below are the hottest trends for 2006...
Multiples-Two refrigerators, dishwashers, washers and dryers, and even laundry rooms are becoming common.

Elevators-These allow easier accessibility for living comfortably in a multi-story home.

Cheese cellars-We’ve all heard of wine cellars. These cellars hold your aged cheese.

More Color-Not only on the interior, but on the exterior also-shutters, doors, window frames, even roof tiles.

Professional-style workout spaces-A single treadmill will no longer do; people want a complete home gym for working out solo or with a trainer.

Third Floor Living Space-Since building up is less expensive than building out, homes are being designed to expand into attic space.

Dual Master Suites-Two master bedrooms can accommodate older relatives or returning college grads.

Snoring Rooms-Live with a snorer? This separate room prevents your family member from having to sleep on the couch and you from missing out on valuable zzzz’s.
Smart Home Technology - Rooms wired so the homeowner can turn on the lights, turn down the heat, and connect to the Internet with the touch of a button.
Glass Refrigerators - No more standing with the door open to rummage for a late night snack!
Elevated Breakfast Bars - These provide even more functionality and dimension to a customized kitchen.
Quality Kitchen Cabinets - The kitchen is quickly becoming the heart of a home, serving as the focal point. Therefore, decorative cabinets are becoming increasingly popular.
Darker Paints - No more washed out beige and white walls. It's time for color! Try a vibrant burgundy or mustard color to spice up a room!
Spa Style Bathrooms - Spend a day at the spa without leaving home! "Waterfall" shower heads and multiple body massage jets can now be found in many new, walk-out showers.
Upstairs Laundry Rooms - Forget carrying the clothes down the stairs...why not put the laundry room closer to the bedrooms?

Personalize your space
Make sure the room you design reflects your personal taste and style. Rooms in magazines look good, but typically aren't functional for the busy family. Design a room that is right for your family. |

Natural Materials
Using green materials, such as bamboo, is a great way to be eco-friendly plus it adds a great natural element to any room. Bamboo is being used for flooring, lamps, accent pieces, and even bed sheets!! A hot trend right now is using wood screens to divide an open space into separate areas.

Color Trends
2009 will bring in more neutral colors. Browns will be popular, but lighter shades. You will see more beige and camels rather than dark chocolates. Bold accent colors will also come into play. For example, a black and white bedroom could have red accent pieces to make the room pop with a splash of color.

Eclectic Design & Patterns
When it comes to designing a room one would usually stick to a "theme" or certain style for that room. In 2009, you will see a shift moving towards a more eclectic design. Mixing different furniture piece styles or even accessories from different countries will bring rooms to life with interest. Patterns will be of interest next year too! You will be patterns on furniture, pillows, and accessories. They will range from floral, paisley, animal print, and geometric patterns. You sure will be able to find any pattern to fit the design for any room! |

Organization
With the typical family life as hectic as it is organization is a must in today's home. Lockers located off the garage entrance helps keep coats, shoes, and backpacks organized and located in an area that can easily be accessed. Drop in stops and tech nooks are also a key part in organization. Drop in stops help you organize where you cell phone, mail, keys, etc. that would normally be placed on the kitchen counter top, now gives you a dedicated area for those items to go. Tech nooks establish an area where your computer would be located. It can be located in the kitchen or in a loft area. These areas are usually left "open" so when children are using the computer they can be supervised.
